Lipotropic Drops: What They Are, What's In Them, and What They Actually Do

Lipotropic drops are liquid supplements taken under the tongue, built around nutrients that support how the liver processes fat — typically choline, methionine and inositol, sometimes with vitamin B12. They are designed to support fat metabolism and energy as part of a wider weight-loss plan. They are not a standalone weight-loss treatment, and they work best alongside real nutritional change.

What "lipotropic" actually means

The word simply means fat-attracting. Lipotropic nutrients are compounds involved in how your liver handles fat — helping move fat through normal metabolic pathways rather than letting it accumulate.

They're not drugs. They're nutrients your body already uses, delivered in a concentrated form.

What's usually in them

Most lipotropic formulas are built around the same core group:

Together these are sometimes sold as a "lipotropic compound formula" or "MIC" (methionine, inositol, choline).

Drops or injections?

Both exist. Injections deliver the same nutrient group and are common in medical weight-loss settings. Drops are taken sublingually — under the tongue — which many people prefer simply because there's no needle involved.

At Weight Loss RVA our approach is injection-free by default. Our core program is built around real food and coaching, with all-natural, non-stimulant support — no caffeine, no drugs, no injections. For patients who are using GLP-1s we offer support or a ramp down program.

Do lipotropic drops work? An honest answer.

Here's where we'd rather be straight with you than sell you something.

Lipotropic nutrients are not a weight-loss treatment on their own. The published evidence for lipotropics producing meaningful weight loss by themselves is limited. Anyone promising you dramatic results from drops alone is overselling.

What they are is a support tool. They sit alongside the parts that actually move the needle — how you eat, how consistent you are, whether your plan fits your life, and whether you have someone helping you stick with it. Used that way, as one component of a supervised plan, they're a reasonable addition.

That's how we use them. MetaSlim™ drops (formerly our Lipotropic Drops) are one piece of the Weight Loss RVA program — not the program itself.

How they're taken

Sublingual drops are placed under the tongue and held briefly before swallowing, usually before meals. Exact timing and amount depend on the formula and on your plan, which is why we set it during your consultation rather than printing a one-size instruction here.

If you're taking any medication or managing a health condition, talk to your provider before adding any supplement — including this one.

Where drops fit in our program

The Weight Loss RVA program has three phases — Reduction, Maintenance and Momentum. Drops support the first two; the coaching and the food changes are what carry results into the third.

Most clients lose about 20–40 pounds in roughly 60 days on the program. See how the program works →

Are they right for you?

That depends on your history, your health, and what you've already tried. Which is exactly what the free consultation is for — we'll tell you honestly whether this is a fit, including if it isn't.

Frequently asked questions

What are lipotropic drops?

Liquid supplements taken under the tongue, built around nutrients involved in how the liver processes fat — typically choline, methionine and inositol, often with vitamin B12. They're designed to support fat metabolism as part of a broader weight-loss plan.

Do lipotropic drops really work for weight loss?

Not on their own. Evidence for lipotropic nutrients producing significant weight loss by themselves is limited. They're best understood as a support tool within a structured plan that changes how you eat, with coaching and supervision.

What's the difference between lipotropic drops and injections?

They deliver a similar nutrient group by different routes. Injections are given in clinic; drops are taken sublingually at home. Weight Loss RVA's core program is injection-free by default.

How do you take lipotropic drops?

Under the tongue, typically before meals. Specific timing and amount depend on the formula and your individual plan, which we set during your consultation.

Are lipotropic drops safe?

They're made from nutrients the body already uses, and are generally well tolerated. As with any supplement, talk to your provider first if you take medication or manage a health condition. Our program is physician-developed and supervised.

Is MetaSlim™ the same as your Lipotropic Drops?

MetaSlim™ is the current name for the drops formerly sold as our Lipotropic Drops.
